Student Opportunities

Come and join Nuclear Futures at Bangor University. Here is a list of current studentships for which you can apply.

Evectek MRes Studentships (paid, 1 year) - Available now for September 2020 Start !

Advert ImageWe are very pleased to be able to offer 3 MRes positions to run during the next academic year in partnership with Evectek.

Evectek are a company developing technology to enable zero emission vehicles. These MRes opportunities provide a great chance to work with Evectek’s engineers and the materials group at Bangor University

These studentships are being run through the KESS 2 scheme. This means that students will receive payment to perform a year’s research, culminating in the award of a Masters in Research degree. The research projects will be carried out collaboratively with Evectek who see these masters as a good way of training the engineers and scientists they would like to employ in the near future.

We have three projects to offer in the areas of sustainable magnetic materials, reducing hydraulic losses and thermoelectric materials. Find more about them here:

Development of sustainable magnetic materials for use in electric vehicles

Powerful magnets are crucial to the operation of low emission electric vehicles. This research degree will help to develop materials for magnets that can be sustainably sourced.

Improving the performance of low emission vehicles – reducing viscous losses in an electrohydraulic system

This is a fully funded 1 year MRes scholarship to perform research to improve the range of electric vehicles. This project will look at fluid-flow and flow-losses in an electrohydraulic drive system.

Electricity from heat – energy reclamation for automotive applications

The subject of this MRes is to find ways to directly convert waste heat into electricity that can then be used to extend the range of electric vehicles.
