Pranav obtained a BEng in Electronic Engineering at Bangor University, where he developed a strong interest in advanced materials and sustainable electronics. His undergraduate research project focused on fabricating microfibrillated cellulose (MFC). Developing MFC based printed circuit boards and capacitors, exploring the viability of biodegradable and low cost electronic devices. This work heavily involved cleanroom processing and advanced electronic fabrication techniques.
Building on this foundation, Pranav joined the Nuclear Futures Institute to pursue a PhD sponsored by Amentum. His doctoral research focuses on understanding and modelling the thermal conductivity of nuclear materials, particularly in relation to zirconium based fuel cladding and oxide growth during reactor operation. By combining experimental measurements with analytical and computational methods, Pranav aims to improve predictive models of heat transfer across cladding oxide systems, supporting safer and more efficient reactor performance.
Pranav’s PhD is supervised by Prof. Simon Middleburgh, with additional industrial guidance from Matt Topping and Jen Pryde.
