Dr. Charlotte Baxter
Chief Technician
Charlotte is the Chief Technician of the Nuclear Futures Institute, with responsibility over the THOR and BULLET facilities. Charlotte completed her PhD in chemistry in 2017 at Bangor University, working on synthesis, characterization and computational studies of boron-oxygen compounds whilst also working as a Senior Demonstrator within the School of Chemistry. She was awarded the Andrew Johnson prize for best final year PhD talk in 2015. Charlotte also completed her MSc in Environmental Chemistry in 2012 at Bangor University, with her research project focussed on electrochemical sensors.
Charlotte then went on to work in industry as part of a Knowledge Transfer Programme (KTP), where she spent 6 years working with a global veterinary pharmaceutical company to develop soluble glass products for use in animal health.
Charlotte is a fluent Welsh speaker and is local to the area. She plays an active role in the Royal Society of Chemistry’s North Wales Local Section committee, having joined the committee in 2012. Charlotte also has experience in many chemistry outreach events, both in local schools and colleges, as well as at the Urdd and National Eisteddfod.
