Participation in the International Youth Nuclear Congress (IYNC), Sydney, 8-13 March 2020

The large-scale event, IYNC2020, held from March 8 to 13 in Sydney, brought together with representatives of the IAEA, Urenco UK Ltd, SMR Nuclear Technologies Pty Ltd, the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency, the World Nuclear Association, the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, the US Department of Energy, the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) and several other organizations. The key theme of the congress was the diversity of people, areas of science and the numerous applications of nuclear technology in medicine, industry, agriculture, as well as in the fight against climate change.

The topics of the current congress allowed the exchange of knowledge and ideas to people from different countries involved in the peaceful use of nuclear science and technology.

Iuliia represented Nuclear Futures at Bangor University and held a workshop on a topic of relevance today: “Fusion Era: Future or Failure?” During the intense seminar through several rounds, participants learned more about fusion power and developed a high level of interest which will persist outside of the congress. In addition, Iuliia presented her current project on “Developing of the new generation of radio-luminescence emitters based on durable actinide-doped zircon crystals” which she is mastering here at Nuclear Futures in Bangor.
