Dr. Hafiz Ahmed
Sêr Cymru Senior Lecturer in Nuclear Instrumentation and Control Engineering
Hafiz Ahmed received his Ph.D. degree in automatic control from the University of Lille 1, Villeneuve-d’Ascq, France, in 2016. He has previously worked as an academic at Coventry University and Birmingham City University. Since April 2021, he has been with the Nuclear Futures Institute, Bangor University, UK.
His current research interests include applied control engineering with special focus in energy and environment. He has co-authored 40+ journal articles on control theory and applications. He research has been funded by the Biotechnology and Biomedical Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), Innovate UK, Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF), the Royal Society, European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), and Higher Education Innovation Fund (HEIF). He has also collaborated extensively with UK-based companies such as Horiba Mira, Jaguar Land Rover, Oxford Vision and Sensor Technology, iPhase, and Cummins.
Dr. Ahmed was the recipient of the European Embedded Control Institute (EECI) Ph.D. Award in 2017 and Best Ph.D. Theses Award from the Research Cluster on Modelling, Analysis, and Management of Dynamic Systems (GDR-MACS) of the National Council of Scientific Research (CNRS) in France, in 2017. He is an Associate Editor for the International Journal of Electrical Engineering and Education. He is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (IEEE) and a fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA).
