Kamil obtained an integrated master’s degree in nuclear engineering at Lancaster University in 2025 having completed his dissertation investigating the corrosion of 304 stainless steel in acid medium at elevated temperatures to aid with missing knowledge needed for the decommissioning of THORP (Sellafield’s pervious fuel recycling plant). During his final year, he undertook a group research product, where he lead the lab work, investigating the effectiveness of ionic liquids in liquid-liquid extraction systems to extract lanthanides from solutions.

 

Following this work, Kamil joined Bangor University to work on characterisation of nuclear fuels focusing on volatile fission products that migrate towards the fuel-to-cladding gap to aid in the development of performance codes for reactors. For this work, Kamil will ne trained at Bangor with analytical technical and working with active materials so that he can continue characterisations at CEA and JRC of post irradiated fuels.
