Great Exhibition Road Festival 2023

Imperial College, and the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851, hosted its annual Great Exhibition Road Festival over the weekend of the 17th and 18th June 2023. This event is a celebration of scientific and artistic innovation, designed to engage the public and inspire their curiosity to learn about our world. At this event, PhD Students from the Nuclear Energy Futures Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT), including PhD students Harvey Plows and Conor Buchanan from Bangor University, ran their Nuclear Futures Carnival. This outreach event, first run with great success at the 2023 Cambridge Festival, features a range of stalls, games and demonstrations to showcase to the public, across all ages, exciting nuclear technology and research. Based in Prince’s Garden inside three marquees, the CDT’s outreach event engaged hundreds of people, from all backgrounds, throughout the weekend. Highlighting to the PhD students the public’s fascination with science and engineering; showing the genuine desire of many to learn more about nuclear energy.  Including about the role it should play in meeting the UK’s future energy demands.
