Eddie joined the NFI in February 2024 as a Nuclear Fusion Materials Technician became Senior Technician in February 2025. His work focuses on supporting academics, postdoctoral researchers, and PhD students in experimental projects involving liquid metals, with a particular emphasis on lithium, in the context of nuclear fusion research.

He is responsible for the safe handling, preparation, and transfer of reactive materials in controlled environments, as well as the operation and maintenance of specialist equipment including gloveboxes, vacuum cabinets, and high-resolution analytical instruments such as ICP-MS. He plays a key role in developing and implementing laboratory procedures, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with safety standards.

Much of Eddie’s work centres on research into lithium for use in breeder blankets, supporting projects in collaboration with UKAEA and working closely with fusion industry partners. Alongside this, he contributes to the design, assembly, and optimisation of bespoke experimental rigs for liquid systems, enabling novel experiments and advancing fusion materials research.

His background combines hands-on technical expertise with a strong understanding of physics and materials science, developed through both his professional role and his ongoing Physics degree with the Open University.
