Charlotte is Chief Technician within NFI, with responsibility over the THOR and BULLET facilities. She is also a Radiation Protection Supervisor for the Dean St laboratories.

 

Charlotte completed her PhD in chemistry in 2017 at Bangor University, working on synthesis, characterization and computational studies of boron-oxygen compounds whilst also working as a part-time Senior Demonstrator within the School of Chemistry. She was awarded the Andrew Johnson prize for best final year PhD talk in 2015. Charlotte also completed her MSc in Environmental Chemistry in 2012 at Bangor University, with her research project focused on developing electrochemical sensors in potable water. She has a wide breadth of skills and knowledge, from protein expression to solid state synthesis and characterization, with experience also in industrial glass and veterinary pharmaceutical manufacturing, as well as undergraduate lab teaching on a wide variety of chemical synthesis and analytical methods.

 

After completing her PhD, Charlotte worked in industry as part of a Knowledge Transfer Programme (KTP), where she spent 6 years working with a global veterinary pharmaceutical company to develop soluble glass products for use in animal health.

Charlotte is a fluent Welsh speaker and is local to the area. She plays an active role in the Royal Society of Chemistry’s North Wales Local Section committee, having joined the committee in 2012. She was recently awarded Chartered Chemist status.

 

Charlotte has also completed the Aurora Leadership Programme for Women and is the nominated technician lead for Bangor University for their signatory to the national Technician Commitment.
