Barry obtained an undergraduate integrated joint master’s degree in Maths & Physics at The University of Manchester in 2017, having completed a final year project investigating phonons in gallium nitride using a Raman laser. Following the completion of this course, Barry undertook a post graduate master’s degree in Advanced Physics at Loughborough University in 2022 having completed a final year project in Mars sample analysis using Raman Spectroscopy.

 

After this work, Barry joined Bangor University having secured funding for a PhD through the Westinghouse Electric Sweeden. Barry is part of the NFI’s Thermal Hydraulics group, and his work focuses on the 2-phase pressure drop for multiphase flows with nuclear applications. For this work, Barry will be using Bangor University’s Thermal-Hydraulics Open-access Research (THOR) facility. This PhD is supervised by Dr Walter Villanueva, Reader in Nuclear Engineering at the NFI.
