Behind the secure gates of the AWE, our latest cohort; Ben Kendall, Cameron McFarlane, Jacob Taylor and Will Gallon; joined a vibrant exchange of ideas spanning the cutting edge of materials science. From ground-breaking semiconductor simulations to our own team’s specialised research in nuclear forensics, the conference was a masterclass in technical diversity.
While the poster sessions allowed us to defend our research under the keen eyes of nuclear security experts, the true value lay in the spaces between the presentations. Networking proved to be the day’s greatest asset; we walked away not just with business cards, but with the potential for future collaborations that could redefine our current projects.
We also took notes from the podium. By observing the award-winning oral presentations, we identified the “X-factor” traits that elevate a talk from good to gold—skills we are eager to bring to our own future stages.
